Whether it is a road traffic crash, a severe fall or a penetrating injury, in a moment, a life can change forever. What happens next can make all the difference. Behind every trauma emergency is a race against time, where preparedness, teamwork, and timely surgical intervention can mean the difference between life and death.

But is the operating room ready when the unexpected happens?

Emergency surgical readiness goes beyond having a surgeon on standby. It means having a coordinated multidisciplinary team, functional equipment, available blood products, reliable laboratory support, effective anaesthesia, and a prepared operating room ready to respond without avoidable delays.

From the emergency department to the operating table, every decision matters. Every handover counts. Every instrument must be ready. Every team member has a role to play.

On this World Trauma Day, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 (𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐆) stands in solidarity with trauma survivors and their families, remembers lives lost to traumatic injuries, and honours the healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to save lives. We call on surgical teams, healthcare institutions, and policymakers to strengthen emergency surgical systems, invest in trauma preparedness, and make timely, safe surgical care accessible to all.
