The Operating Room Global (TORG) invites suitably qualified and experienced researchers, academics, clinicians and healthcare professionals worldwide to apply as Global Research Mentors for its 2026/2027 Global Research Fellowship.

The Fellowship supports emerging healthcare researchers through academic teaching, individual mentorship, research implementation, scientific writing and dissemination. We seek research-active, academically experienced and committed professionals able to support Fellows throughout the programme.

Nature of appointment: Voluntary, non-salaried academic service requiring sustained professional commitment.

Minimum requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Academic qualification: A relevant MSc or equivalent master’s-level qualification, MD, PhD or other recognised postgraduate qualification in healthcare research, clinical sciences, public health, education or related disciplines.
  2. Research publications: At least five peer-reviewed original research publications in recognised journals, verifiable through DOI links, journal websites, ORCID, Google Scholar or equivalent records.
  3. Research experience: Substantial practical experience in research design, protocols, implementation, analysis, interpretation, scientific writing and dissemination.
  4. Mentorship experience: Prior research supervision, academic mentorship, project leadership or substantive research-team guidance.
  5. Methodological competence: Demonstrable expertise in relevant research methods or healthcare research disciplines.
  6. Teaching capability: Ability to teach, facilitate research discussions and provide constructive feedback to an international cohort.
  7. Professional commitment: Reliability, communication, academic integrity and availability throughout the Fellowship.
  8. Programme participation: Willingness to attend mandatory orientation, assigned teaching, Virtual Research Congress activities, monthly mentorship and reporting.
  9. Fellow allocation: Ability to mentor two to four Fellows, subject to expertise, availability, project complexity and Directorate approval.
  10. Formal agreement: Willingness to sign and comply with the TORG Global Research Mentor Commitment Agreement. Sustained non-performance may lead to withdrawal of appointment.

Additional consideration may be given to applicants with a PhD, MD, postgraduate supervision, principal investigator experience or established academic research leadership.

Teaching, mentorship and accountability

Cohort-wide teaching and engagement

The Fellowship includes eight structured academic teaching sessions, each expected to last approximately two hours. Mentors should be available to contribute to two of the eight sessions as assigned, including chairing, presenting, co-presenting, facilitating or discussing. They must also attend orientation, contribute to the Virtual Research Congress and participate in relevant coordination and review meetings. Assignments will follow the approved programme timetable.

Individual research mentorship

Each mentor will support two to four Fellows and hold at least one structured meeting each month with each assigned Fellow. Guidance covers research questions, protocols, study design, ethics and governance, implementation, data interpretation, scientific writing, presentations and manuscripts. Mentors review deliverables, monitor milestones and raise significant delays or academic concerns.

Important distinction: Mentors guide and oversee the work; they do not conduct research or prepare outputs on behalf of Fellows.

Monitoring and reporting

Mentors must submit a monthly Mentor Progress Report, document meetings and agreed actions, attend required reviews, respond to official communications, support assessments and maintain confidentiality, integrity and appropriate supervision standards. Consistent participation and reporting are mandatory; repeated non-compliance or prolonged non-responsiveness may lead to review or withdrawal of appointment.

Nature and duration

This is a voluntary, non-salaried professional academic service appointment for the full 2026/2027 Fellowship. It requires sustained involvement rather than occasional advice. Applicants unable to commit to mentorship, teaching, reporting and scheduled academic activities are encouraged to defer their applications.

Professional recognition and benefits

  • Formal appointment as a TORG Global Research Mentor for the 2026/2027 cohort.
  • Opportunities for academic teaching, session chairing, facilitation and scientific leadership during the Fellowship and Virtual Research Congress.
  • International research collaboration and professional networking.
  • Potential publication co-authorship only where recognised authorship criteria are met; authorship is not automatic.
  • An official recognition and appreciation certificate following satisfactory completion and verification of assigned responsibilities.

€20 Mentor Appreciation Voucher

A modest €20 voucher for each successfully mentored Fellow, subject to verification that the Fellow completed mandatory Fellowship requirements and the mentor satisfactorily fulfilled assigned responsibilities. This is a token of appreciation, not salary or remuneration, and is not retrospective.

Documents to submit

  1. Updated CV detailing qualifications, appointments, research, publications, teaching and supervision.
  2. Cover letter (preferably no more than two pages) outlining motivation, expertise, experience and commitment.
  3. Postgraduate qualification evidence or verifiable credentials.
  4. Numbered list of at least five original peer-reviewed publications, with titles, journals, years and DOI or accessible links.
  5. Academic profile (ORCID, Google Scholar or institutional profile), where available.
  6. Evidence of supervision or mentorship, research leadership or relevant appointments.
  7. Recent high-resolution professional headshot suitable for official communications.
  8. Availability and commitment statement confirming willingness to mentor two to four Fellows, teach, attend orientation and congress activities, and report monthly.
  9. Statement of alignment with TORG’s mission and vision and commitment to its values and professional standards.
