The Operating Room Global Journal (TORGJ)
The Operating Room Global Journal (TORGJ) invites Expressions of Interest from accomplished clinicians, researchers, educators, and healthcare professionals who are committed to advancing high-quality scholarly publishing and strengthening global surgical and perioperative research.
TORGJ is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by The Operating Room Global Centre for Education, Research & Innovation, an arm of The Operating Room Global (TORG). The journal publishes original research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, quality improvement initiatives, case reports, educational research, and innovations across surgery, anaesthesia, perioperative care, operating room practice, global surgery, and allied health.
Voluntary Nature of Appointment
Editorial Board appointments are voluntary and honorary positions. No financial remuneration is provided. Members are expected to contribute their expertise and time in support of the journal’s mission to advance high-quality scholarly publishing and global dissemination of knowledge in surgery, perioperative care, anaesthesia, operating room practice, and allied health.
The expected workload will vary according to the role and manuscript volume, and editorial responsibilities will be assigned in consultation with the Editorial Board. Appointment to the Editorial Board reflects professional recognition and provides opportunities to contribute to international academic publishing, editorial leadership, peer review, and the continued development of The Operating Room Global Journal.

Available Positions
Deputy Editor x 1
Responsibilities
- Support the Editor-in-Chief in the strategic leadership of the journal.
- Oversee the peer-review process and editorial workflow.
- Coordinate Associate Editors and Section Editors.
- Support editorial decisions and quality assurance.
- Monitor manuscript processing timelines.
- Act on behalf of the Editor-in-Chief when delegated.
Managing Editor x 2
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the journal.
- Manage manuscript submissions from receipt to publication.
- Conduct initial administrative and formatting checks.
- Coordinate communication with reviewers, and editors.
- Track manuscript progress throughout peer review.
- Maintain editorial records and documentation.
- Coordinate publication schedules and issue planning.
- Support Editorial Board meetings and operational activities.
- Coordinate Editorial Board meetings in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief.
- Prepare and circulate meeting agendas.
- Record and distribute meeting minutes and action points.
- Monitor progress on agreed actions and follow up with Editorial Board members.
- Maintain official editorial records and documentation.
- Coordinate internal communications among Editorial Board members.
Associate Editors x 2
Responsibilities
- Handle assigned manuscripts throughout peer review.
- Select and invite appropriate peer reviewers.
- Ensure reviewers possess appropriate subject expertise.
- Monitor peer-review quality and timeliness.
- Assess scientific quality and methodological rigor.
- Ensure compliance with international reporting standards, including CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE, CARE, SRQR, and other relevant EQUATOR Network guidelines, where applicable.
- Evaluate revised manuscripts following peer review.
- Make recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief regarding editorial decisions.
Section Editors x 7
Section Editors will also serve as expert peer reviewers within their specialty areas.

Responsibilities
- Conduct expert peer review of manuscripts.
- Evaluate scientific quality, originality, and relevance.
- Assess methodological rigor and reporting quality.
- Ensure adherence to appropriate international reporting guidelines.
- Recommend manuscript improvements.
- Identify additional expert reviewers where required.
- Promote high-quality submissions within their specialty.
Production and Technical Editor x 2
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the production of accepted manuscripts.
- Perform copyediting and proofreading.
- Ensure consistency in grammar, formatting, references, tables, figures, and article presentation.
- Prepare articles for final publication.
- Ensure Crossref metadata accuracy.
- Support XML and metadata preparation for indexing requirements.
- Maintain publication quality standards across all issues.
- Verify author information, affiliations, abstracts, keywords, funding statements, acknowledgements, and references before publication.
- Conduct final publication quality assurance checks.
Communications Editor x 1
Responsibilities
- Promote journal publications internationally.
- Coordinate journal announcements and publication highlights.
- Support author and reviewer engagement.
- Prepare newsletters and press releases.
- Coordinate social media communication.
- Promote special issues and Calls for Papers.
- Support initiatives aimed at increasing journal visibility, readership, and citations.
International Advisory Board Members x 2
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic advice on journal development.
- Support international collaboration and visibility.
- Advise on editorial quality and best publishing practices.
- Promote the journal within international academic networks.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving the journal’s global impact and indexing readiness.
General Expectations of Editorial Board Members
Editorial Board Members are expected to:
- Uphold the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity.
- Adhere to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial and peer-review process.
- Declare and appropriately manage conflicts of interest.
- Promote rigorous, transparent, and fair peer review.
- Encourage adherence to internationally recognised reporting guidelines, including those published by the EQUATOR Network.
- Contribute to the international visibility and academic reputation of the journal.
- Participate actively in Editorial Board discussions and journal development initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A Master’s, doctoral degree, specialist qualification, or equivalent academic/professional experience relevant to the position.
- An active record of scholarly publications.
- Experience in research, peer review, academic publishing, or editorial activities.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Commitment to timely editorial service.
- Ability to work effectively within an international multidisciplinary editorial team.
- An ORCID iD (required).
- A Scopus Author ID, Google Scholar, Web of Science Researcher Profile, ResearchGate, or other recognised academic research profile is highly desirable.
