Following the formalised strategic collaboration between InnovateHealth Africa (IHA) and The Operating Room Global (TORG), we are pleased to invite applications from qualified TORG Members and Active Leaders for nomination to the Africa Healthcare Innovation Fellowship (AHIF) 2026.

As part of this partnership, TORG will nominate outstanding members for special consideration within the highly competitive AHIF 2026 cohort. Final selection remains strictly merit-based and aligned with AHIF eligibility requirements and selection standards.

About AHIF 2026

The Africa Healthcare Innovation Fellowship (AHIF) 2026 is a 14-week, field-based fellowship designed to equip young African professionals with the skills, networks, and hands-on experience needed to design, test, and scale context-relevant healthcare solutions.

Fellows will engage directly with health systems, communities, policymakers, and innovation hubs across Africa.

What Fellows Will Gain

• Hands-on experience designing and validating healthcare solutions

• Cross-country and multidisciplinary collaboration
• Mentorship from leaders in health, policy, and innovation ecosystems
• Official certification in digital health innovation

Fellowship Structure (May-July 2026)

• Phase 1: Orientation & Foundational Learning (Virtual)
• Phase 2: Problem Discovery (On-site)
• Phase 3: Problem Validation & Capacity Building (Virtual)
• Phase 4: Prototyping Lab (On-site)
• Phase 5: Field Pilot (On-site)
• Phase 6: Demo Day (Virtual)

Eligibility Criteria (Must Meet All)

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen of an African country and currently reside on the continent
• Be aged 18–35 years at the time of application
• Have a background or demonstrated experience in healthcare, public health, digital health, technology, or innovation
• Demonstrate strong interest in healthcare innovation and digital transformation
• Be able to commit fully to the 14-week fellowship period

• Proof of TORG Membership or Active Leadership status
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Motivation Statement
• Portfolio of relevant work and experience

Important Programme Logistics & Financial Considerations

Applicants should kindly note the following:

  • The physical components of the fellowship (Problem Identification and Validation phases) will take place within fellows’ respective localities, in collaboration with designated local health facilities and innovation labs in selected African countries.
  • Fellows will be expected to engage with health services within their own geographic area where possible.
  • If any local travel within a state or region is required, such costs will be the responsibility of the fellow.
  • The fellowship does not provide reimbursement for travel, logistics, accommodation, or feeding expenses.
  • Faculty mentors are not required to travel. All mentorship engagement will be conducted virtually.
  • Specific physical partner locations will be communicated by InnovateHealth Africa once finalised.
